Our History and Products
Econoday was founded in 1990 by professionals in the securities industry who believed investors could make strategic and more successful investment decisions by following economic indicators. Their goal was to create a resource to easily access information on these announcements that would include not only the time of an upcoming event, but also descriptive information that would enhance a client's understanding of the event and why investors should care.

The charter products were printed financial diaries that displayed economic indicators and U.S. Treasury announcements for each day of the calendar year. These calendars continue to be popular today with professionals in the financial markets because tools and resources are integrated into the pages of the diaries that make it easier for them to execute their daily trades and to plan their longer-term financials strategies.

The highly successful print diaries went online in 1997 as the web presented Econoday with greater opportunities to help investors keep abreast of economic news by providing event highlights immediately following the announcements. The unique feature of the Econoday online calendar is that, in addition to updating investors on the announcements of the day, you'll also find integrated into the calendar a variety of educational resources including event descriptions, weekly articles on the activities in the global markets, and in-depth resource modules on specific topics such as the equity and bond markets, the Federal Reserve, and country profiles.

The only thing more convenient than going online to see updates on a market event is to check your Outlook or PDA calendar. Now Econoday offers a way to do just that. You can even receive updates automatically on your ipod. Economic events and corporate events for the stocks you follow can now appear on your personal calendar automatically. The product is called "MyEconoday". Once you download the software, upcoming events appear on your calendar. When updates are available on an event, such as consensus data or highlights of the actual release, they appear on your calendar. You can also see corporate events on your calendar. First, you might see that a company is announcing earnings; then you'll be updated as to what estimates are for the announcement, and when the actual number is released your calendar will be updated with the data and a link to the press release.

New technology brings new opportunities for Econoday to communicate critical information to investors. Stay tuned for the next new product.

The Economic Team
Something you'll notice that is different about Econoday is that we do not forecast. Unbiased, jargon-free, market-focused commentary is the signature style of the Economic Team at Econoday. Their goal is to enhance an investor's understanding of the relationship of economic announcements to market activity.

Econoday provides a three step process in both their print and online products that make it easier for investors to follow economic trends.

  1. We keep you informed of the events that influence the market each day, but focus on the market moving indicators. These are indicators that have historically had the biggest impact on the market. We have identified 12 market moving indicators and provide an in-depth description of each.
  2. We track the individual components of these indicators. The print diaries include grids that investors can fill out. The on-line calendar provides the actual release data going back 6 months in addition to long term charts of the headline numbers. This data can assist investors in identifying strengths and weaknesses in the various sectors of the economy.
  3. We analyze the data. Know what the trends have been before an indicator is released. If the release data surprises the market, you'll have a strategy in place.
