Product Manager
Jeff Czernek helped design Econoday’s sovereign debt auction coverage and has been in charge of the expansion and development of this product and service since it was initiated in 2016. He also leads the team responsible for the daily updates of the relevant auction events. Jeff brings extensive fixed income experience as a bond portfolio manager, trader, and market maker in government and corporate bonds. His financial market and price discovery knowledge extends to commodity futures through his years as an open outcry floor trader in the gold pit.
European Editor
Marco Babic is an economist on the European economy team working from Switzerland. He started his career in Washington DC as an economist analyzing the US economy and Fed policy. He then took on a role with Market News International in Frankfurt, Germany to build its European economic indicator product, while also covering and the Bundesbank and Germany’s regional central banks.
He later moved to Japan for Bloomberg News, and then on to Singapore and Zurich, eventually rising to the level of executive editor managing a global team covering economic indicators. After Bloomberg, Marco worked for a Swiss online finance platform and then moving to Vontobel Asset Management before joining Econoday.
Sales Ops and Social Media Manager
Matthew Brady leads Econoday’s content creation and media strategy, making complex financial information accessible through charting key U.S. economic indicators and multimedia content. Matthew oversees sovereign debt coverage for Hungary, Israel, South Africa, and Egypt; manages U.S. Treasury announcements, Fed speeches, and consensus data flow; and drives the marketing and distribution of Econoday’s print and digital products across web, email, social media, video, and podcasts.
Analyst
Brai is an analyst for Econoday. He has almost two decades of experience in journalism, public policy research, and data analysis. He is the founder of SW4 Insights, a public policy advisory firm. Brai leverages his network, policy knowledge, and business background to develop solutions to clients’ public policy challenges. Prior to forming the company, Brai was a Senior Director at Hamilton Place Strategies (HPS), a public affairs consulting firm. Before joining HPS, Brai was the Washington Bureau Manager for Market News International (MNI), a financial news service. He served as a senior correspondent covering the White House, U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve, and economic policy developments. He also brought important innovations to MNI, including the development of its Middle East and energy coverage.
Economist
Simisola (Simi) Fagbola, Economist and Data Analyst at Econoday. As a member of the economic team, Simi produces reports on economic indicators across Europe, specifically focused on Italy. She is also the editor of Econoday’s weekly Key Global Events report. In addition, she is one of several economists who deliver Econoday’s weekly consensus. As a graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), Simisola has a BSc (Hons) in Economics. Whilst at MMU, she worked as an Economic Research Assistant at MMU’s education economics research lab under the Economics, Politics and International Business (EPIB) department.

Dr. Olajide, an economist at Econoday Inc., brings extensive experience in economic analysis, policy evaluation, and strategic advisory services across both public and private sectors. As a European market economist, he specialises in analysing macroeconomic trends across Europe, with a focus on the Euro Area, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy. He provides in-depth insights on inflation dynamics, monetary policy developments, labour markets, fiscal policy, and sectoral activity, helping clients and stakeholders navigate complex economic environments. His work combines high-frequency data analysis, policy monitoring, and market intelligence to deliver precise and actionable economic commentary. Dr. Olajide’s expertise aligns with Econoday’s mission, providing clients with reliable, timely and actionable economic/financial intelligence and insights. He holds a doctorate in economics and an MBA with a focus on finance and strategy, and has published extensively in leading policy and academic journals.
Economic Reporter
Terry has followed the US economic data for over 35 years. First working with economic databases at McGraw/Hill-Data Resources, then as an economic data reporter at Market News International, and later as an analyst at Stone McCarthy Research Associates.
She is deeply familiar with the major high-frequency data reports that drive the financial news cycle. She has followed the ins-and-out of the Board of Governors and District Bank Presidents, and developments in monetary policy as conditions have changed since the Volcker years.
Terry is a graduate of the University of Maryland University College with bachelor’s degrees in English, Information Management, and Psychology.
Economic Reporter
Max Sato is a journalist with about 40 years’ experience writing and editing macro-economic policy, financial, energy and political news, while managing teams at global news organizations. He helped launch Reuters Financial Television in Asia in 1995 and Market News International in Tokyo in 2005.
As Tokyo bureau chief for MNI, Max expanded news and data coverage and modernized the technical delivery of real-time information. Prior to that he was chief correspondent for BridgeNews in Toronto and a senior correspondent for Reuters Canada.
He has been a member of The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan (1987-1997, 2003-2020, a visiting member since 2023), The Japan National Press Club (2003-2018), and The Toronto Association for Business and Economics (2002-2003).
Asia-Pacific Economist
Brian Jackson is based in Sydney and has covered the Asia-Pacific region for Econoday since 2018.
After starting his career at the Australian Department of Treasury, Brian had several roles in major organisations in London, New York & Hong Kong, including at the Bank of England & the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He has many years’ experience covering macroeconomic data and central bank policy.
Director of Human Resources and Accounting
Catherine Varnau received both a BS and BA degree from Purdue University in Psychology and Sociology. After moving to Chicago, she received an MBA from De Paul University with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting.
Professional career includes consulting in operations, accounting, and benefit plans with a wide variety of clients and industries while working for consulting firms such as Hewitt Associates and PricewaterhouseCooper. She has worked at Econoday, Inc. since 2009
After 20 years in Chicago, she moved to Berkeley, CA. She now has two adult sons. Catherine and her family enjoy going to music events and festivals and traveling in the US and internationally.
Editor-in-Chief
Tony Mace worked as global managing editor for Market News International where he oversaw editorial operations and introduced numerous services for financial market subscribers. Tony has had a 5-year association with Econoday as an analyst and now editor-in-chief. He is also founder of Mace News, a financial news agency. Tony began his career as a reporter at The News and Observer in Raleigh, N.C. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and has a master’s degree in international economics from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
CEO
Alana Kleinberger joined Econoday in 2017 as the General Manager / Director of Business Development. Alana oversees the day to day operations of Econoday and functions as the Relationship Manager across the vast spectrum of Econoday clients.
Alana has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, most recently in FinTech. As the Manager of Business Development at ASI, Alana helped to grow their cloud platform enabling financial advisors and wealth management companies with digital solutions. Prior to ASI, Alana was with Bloomberg where she managed the terminal business at a large financial institution.
Alana began her career in the Real Estate Business Advisory Services group at PwC where she managed the CMBS side of the business. She is a graduate of Penn State University.
